The founder of the Wu-Te Performance Troupes
is an Educator, Medical Sociologist, and Head
Instructor
of the 7Circles Southern/Northern Shaolin Kung
Fu WuShu, WuKung, & Qigong Pai. Seifu (teacher)
Sharif teaches and stresses the positive and
profound influence
that martial and performing arts training can
have on the psycho-social and emotional development
of
our youth [not to mention the physical health
benefits]. The rapid growth of the Complementary
Health Care
Movement in the U.S. and the trend towards using
such techniques as tai chi chuan, qigong, acupressure,
and meditation as part of our health care menu
makes
this an ideal moment in time to introduce these
techniques as prevention, intervention, and treatment
modalities in the education and development of
our
children. By challenging youth to learn and perform
at high levels we are also saying to them that
'we
believe that they can'.
Wu-Te Performance Troupes is based on a prevention
and early intervention model. It targets disadvantaged
and at risk youth of diverse racial, ethnic, national,
and religious backgrounds. The Program serves both
boys and girls. Wu-Te is a year-round after-school
and summer program. The Wu-Te Performance Troupes
are Peer Mentors. They are being trained for Leadership.
The Wu-Te Troupes perform beautifully choreographed
traditional and contemporary martial arts, dance,
and acrobatic techniques to the amazement of their
peer and adult audiences. Their demonstrations reflect
a high level of discipline and send a strong message
of encouragement to other youth about making healthy
lifestyle choices.
